Arizona Cache (2/2)
I had been meaning to get to this cache all week because of a recently listed trackable but I kept getting off late from work so skipped it. Lucky me, we had a command function this very day roughly 200 feet from ground zero! I grabbed one of our guys (Towsly) and had her walk over to it with me so I wouldn’t look weird grabbing it by myself. Easiest find ever though:
In light of recent events, I’ll attempt to finish the back log, but as of right now, I shall just log as I go or else I’ll forget again~
At long last I am back in the saddle!
Roe asked me a day or so ago if I could take Reyer and her geocaching, and I was all “Yeah that’s cool”. They wanted me to take them somewhere easy, yet out in the forest. After pondering I recalled that my husband had gone caching with my father while I was on deployment and asked him. Off to the Aiea Loop Trail we went!
Cache Across America – Hawaii (2/2)
So this one was actually the third cache along the trail…
Now see, this caching adventure served a dual purpose besides taking the girls geocaching, it also gave me an opportunity to see how feasible dropping a “real” GPS would be, and going 100% android app.
Well turns out it has a learning curve, HA. The first two caches we blew by as I wasn’t really giving the app time to zero in on our location. After I realized this at the third cache, it was a snap.
Roe and I went tearing off into the trees at GZ and after a roughly 4~6 min search I zero’d in on the cache:
After that we continued onwards, but never did get another cache further down the line. We turned back after a bit, determined to get the two that we missed at the beginning. But first, pictures!
Whale watching at Ninini Point (2/2.5)
Fraking, freaking, frooking. So we’re back from deployment right and then we turn around and go underway. Grr.
But not all is lost! we’re just going to another island, and I can totally score a cache while I’m here! Look out Kaui, here comes leftover!
So my day started off simple enough. I was off going duty and trying to avoid morning sweepers when just the right excuse came my way: One of the RHIBs was missing! I scoff at this news and saunter over to the RHIBs and my jaw drops slowly as behold:
Where is the RHIB?? Turns out later that it had been docked at the aft ass of the ship on purpose, but what hadn’t been on purpose was the fact that it was rapidly sinking.
That’s ok, DC1 to the rescue! Him, Tarvin and a BM managed to save it. After that, turnover occured and I scurried off the ship determined to find my first geocache since Hong Kong.
Do Not Find This Cache! (1.5/1.5) DNF
Alright, so since I was in Hong Kong on business (Navy lol) I was determined to get a geocache there. I picked a couple out the previous day on duty, and Place and myself decided to hit them up.
This first one we tried was hell to get to. My GPS did not have any other maps besides America on it, so I had no street navigation. To facilitate the ordeal I printed some google maps and used the GPS and the map to navigate. We had a lot of wrong turns, difficulty crossing the street, etc etc. Near ground zero there was an butt ton of construction going on and my coordinates kept pointing to a blocked off area, so we gave up. Found out later the cache would have been retrievable from another direction. Oh well, I definitely lived up to the Cache’s name in this case!
Central Plaza (2.5/1)
So we scurried on to the next one and it started to POUR. We took cover under a bus stop until it stopped a bit, and then continued to GZ. Because of the rain there were barely any muggles, though there was a groundskeeper present. I waited till he was not looking and easily grabbed the cache (micro). Thankfully by the time I was ready to open the nano the rain had stopped.
Got the prize in hand!
Hanging Man (1.5/1)
Whelp I’ve got a story for this one. I did in fact find the hanging man. But this is the only geocaching in my history of geocaching I have no pictures of. It makes me sad. Fast forward a few weeks after this we pulled into Bahrain… and I uh. Got pretty trashed… and left my camera at the restaurant we were at. Heart broken </3
